Dreampower Animal Rescue!!

Your Help is Needed for Some Not So Lucky Pets!
It's a sad fact of life that when economic times turn tough, demand for animal placement/adoption services increase. However, contributions tend to decrease in number and size just when we need help the most!

We've experienced a significant increase in the number of calls from people looking to surrender their companion animals due to foreclosures on their homes, or loss of jobs. We know the community needs Dreampower now more than ever, but we can only save as many animals as resources allow.

Please help us help these animals and assist these people in need! Your monetary gifts are always welcome to help with operational costs including veterinary care for foster animals, and to support our Community Assistance Project (CAP) that strives to keep animals in their homes by helping senior and disabled citizens with emergency veterinary care.

Homes are always needed to provide temporary foster care for animals in crisis. If you have a spare bedroom, laundry room, heated garage, or some other safe area in which to place an animal for a few days or a few months, please consider fostering. Dreampower provides all veterinary care, supplies, food and litter. You provide the home and much-needed tender loving care.

You are the key to helping us write happy endings for the animals of the Southern Colorado!

Denverddawg Information and More!
Looking for Denver Dog Parks click on me, or off leash areas look no further Statistics show that 1 in 3 families own a Pet, well here in Colorado I have to think that number jumps to every other family! Denver has been voted many years running the Top city in the U.S. to own a Pet and I believe it. The question is how to better improve your Pet's behavior, health or well being...that's where I come in.

Denverdaawg Here To Make Your Life Easier!
Why do I need a Pet Sitter or Dog Walker? If you are like most working Americans you are low on time and high on tasks. You might put in long hours at the office. This shortens the amount of time you spend engaging in dog walking with your best canine friend every day. Different dog breeds have different daily exercise requirements, so your pooch might need extensive dog walking or run in the middle of the day to keep from Behavior issues. How can you take your dog walking and be at work at the same time? You can hire a dog walker to be your dog walking replacement while you are at work. Often times a dog walker is more then just a necessity because many dogs that have limited dog walking time become irritable. Dogs need to have daily exercise and human connection through dog walking. This lack of exercise has let excess energy build up and can make your loving pet a little less loving.

With the Economy not doing so well it's affecting us all and yes Pets are Greatly affected also..How You Ask? There is something called the Forecloser syndrome that has a ripple effect. You loose your job, your home, often times a Pet is lost in the shuffle! With so many pets now being given up due to this huge downswing in the economy we all should be proactive in one form of another to help assist this pets in need! Animal shelters are at an all time high with many at overcapacity so pass along to others when deciding about your next pet, ditch the breeders and follow your heart to a shelter :)

Poodle Chosen as Top Dog For Obama!!

Now that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has chosen his vice president, it's time for him to concentrate on another important selection: family dog. The American Kennel Club® (AKC) announced today that the public has elected a Poodle as their breed of choice for the Obama family. The AKC launched its poll to find a breed for Obama (www.presidentialpup.com) after reports that - win or lose - the Obamas promised their two daughters a dog after the presidential election. More than 42,000 people cast their vote over the seven week campaign.

The Poodle clinched the nomination after the breed battled it out with the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier in a race almost as tight as Clinton and Obama's run for the Democratic nomination for president. The Poodle won by a (dog) hair, with just a few hundred votes separating the top two contenders. The Miniature Schnauzer, Bichon Frise, and Chinese Crested were also nominated, due to their distinct characteristics that made them uniquely suited for the Obama family - hypoallergenic coat, child friendly, moderate energy level, and stable and social temperament."Most of our Presidents kept purebreds in the White House," said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "When times get tough - during a bad economy or when presidential pressures are at their peak - these dogs serve as personal companions and give much relaxation and laughter to our leaders during difficult times."If the Obamas follow America's advice and choose a Poodle, the AKC will assist them in responsibly acquiring a puppy or adult rescue dog. The AKC's puppy buyer resource page at www.puppybuyerinfo.com offers links to responsible breeders who are members of AKC clubs as well as to affiliated breed rescue groups that have dogs for adoption. For instance, the Poodle National Breed Club web site can be located at . The Obama family may be adding a dog to their household for the first time, but Republican nominee John McCain is ahead of the pack with 24 pets, including four dogs.

Therefore, animal lovers may be ready to help him "fetch" the election. According to a recent Associated Press survey,"pet owners favor McCain over Obama 42 percent to 37 percent, with dog owners particularly in McCain's corner.""It's no surprise the American public choose a Poodle for Obama," said Peterson. "Poodles are currently the eighth most popular breed in the U.S., according to 2007 AKC registrations statistics, and it spent more than two decades in the top spot - a true testament to its suitability as a family pet. And while Poodles require frequent grooming, their consistent and predictable coat is crucial for their daughter and all who suffer from allergies."Poodles, often considered high-maintenance show dogs, can also be kept in a simple one-length clip. They are exceptionally smart and athletic, excel in obedience training and are great hunting companions. They are one of the breeds that come in three sizes, so it can easily accommodate living in the White House or at Camp David. The Standard variety is the largest size, measuring over 15 inches. It is the oldest of the three varieties and developed for water retrieving. The Miniature variety measures over 10 inches but less than 15 inches. It is speculated that the Miniature variety may have been used for truffle hunting. The Toy Poodle measures 10 inches and under and was often used in performances and traveling entertainment groups. Tribute to Zeke...The Best Dog You Could Ever Ask For!

This Newsletter is a Tribute to a few of our Loved ones that recently passed. This is not meant in any way to bring sadness, but to bring Happiness and remembrance for the fulfilling lives they led! Please help us remember Zeke, Aslan and Satchmo! One thing I've learned from the years in this Business is that's it's not really work, it's a bond and an attachment that is created with the Pet's I see on a daily basis. The one thing that I didn't expect to deal with so much is the loss of pets, which is tough because I consider them my my pets as well. It can be difficult but when you have my Zeke pass as well as 2 other close pets all close together it gets especially challenging! My Little Bear Zeke will be deeply missed but lives on through my future fishing trips and from countless memories we shared
Zeke was one in a Million!

Zeke's joy in life was to sleep, eat, go fishing and to ride along during the day with Papa to play with his 4 legged friends! Too many words to describe how he meant to me and others so I put together a tribute page for him that shows his Love of Life.

Zeke's Tribute Page
Aslan...one Happy Lab that always seemed to Smile!!
Aslan has been a close buddy of mine for years now. Each visit seemed to brighten my day more and more with his happy go lucky smile. Winter time was his favorite time of the year and his ability to make a snow angel was truely worth admiring. He loved to play inside with his toys, naps on the couch, he loved his belly rubs, his slow paced casual walks and more importantly, Az loved to smile. He will be missed tremendously and will be hard to replace...

Rainbow Bridge Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them; who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. - Author Unknown

Cute Tribute Card
Satchmo...What a special dog that will be missed by many & especially myself!
Satchmo was a rescue dog that started his life in a not so great place than was adopted by a true dog lover and found a special home. Satchmo would get soo excited to see me he would run around the yard frantically awaiting for me to greet him and receive kisses! Satchmo's joy of life was to chase tennis balls, or really anything you could throw to him he would chase. Satchmo left us suddenly last week unfortunately and it still hits close to home from his loss.

This was passed on to me by someone recently: When Your Hut's On Fire The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him. Every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions. One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, with smoke rolling up to the sky. He felt the worst had happened, and everything was lost. He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger. He cried out, 'God! How could you do this to me?' Early the next day, he was awakened by the sound of a ship approaching the island! It had come to rescue him! 'How did you know I was here?' asked the weary man of his rescuers. 'We saw your smoke signal,' they replied. The Moral of This Story : It's easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of our pain and suffering. Remember that the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground. It just may be a smoke signal that summons the Grace of God.

I've had many ask me what they can do to help? To make these Memories long lasting and to help, please make a donation to Max Fund, the Denver Dumb Friends or Morris Animal Foundation...this goes a long way to remember them and to help other Pets in need. Thanks to those who have already given so far!

Every year, countless numbers of dogs are given up on.They are unwanted, abandoned for medical or behavioral reasons, the result of extreme abuse, or the unfortunate victims of circumstance, many of these dogs will be unable to find permanent homes, and euthanized when individuals and institutions throughout the country, and the world, are unable to care for them any longer. For many of these dogs, Dogtown represents a dog’s last chance for redemption, hope, or survival. Dogtown is a last resort.DOGTOWN follows these dogs from their initial arrival at Best Friends, through their various medical and/or behavioral transformations, all the way through adoption, a lifetime spent at Dogtown, or in rare medical cases, death. Denver Democratic Convention -Things To Know!

So How Big is This Years 2008 Democratic Convention...

Find out more here:

For Denver Democratic Concierge Services Click Here

Denver Democratic Activities List Here

Design plans for the Convention hall are underway. Alvarado-Turner-HOK, an association of three local companies with experience in large-scale projects and events, including the 1996 Democratic National Convention, was awarded the construction management contract and is making preparations to begin renovations once access is granted.

Audio, lighting and scenic designs are complete and initial designs for the podium and stage have been drawn up. Once we have a nominee, our production team is ready to put the nominee’s stamp on the look and feel of the Convention hall.

More than 675,000 square feet of space has been allocated. Inside the Pepsi Center facility – from backstage to suites to team locker rooms – space has been allocated for a specific purpose to support Convention operations.

Nearly 200,000 square feet of media space has been allocated. Initial plans are complete for the media pavilions located outside the Pepsi Center that will provide workspace for many of the nearly 15,000 members of the media expected to attend the Convention.

Space has been allocated for more than 100 production trucks, media workspace trailers and broadcast transmission vehicles.

The DNCC has secured hotel rooms and meeting space for Convention guests – delegates, Democratic National Committee (DNC) and campaign staff, elected officials, allied groups and members of the media.

17,000 hotel rooms in the Denver metro area are reserved: More than 90% of the hotel rooms have been assigned for Convention guests, and the Hyatt Regency Denver, a union hotel, was selected as the DNCC’s official headquarters hotel.

Meeting space reserved at 100+ hotels and the Colorado Convention Center: All available meeting space at each official Convention hotel and the Colorado Convention Center, which will serve as an extension of the DNCC’s Convention headquarters, is reserved for Convention-related use (delegation breakfasts, caucus meetings and training sessions).

80% of all delegation hotels are within walking distance of the Convention hall or accessible by public transportation, and bus transportation will be provided for the remaining hotels.

The DNCC has developed an ADA-accessible, safe, secure and efficient transportation system for delegates, media, dignitaries and other Convention guests in partnership with the City of Denver, the Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD) and the Denver Police Department:
250 buses planned for daily transport between official Convention hotels and the Pepsi Center: Denver-based Event Transportation Associates, Inc. (ETA) will plan and manage a bus shuttle system to operate continuously between all official Convention hotels and the Pepsi Center.

400 motorpool vehicles provided by General Motors: As Official Vehicle Provider, General Motors will provide up to 400 vehicles for a motorpool to transport U.S. House and Senate Leadership, DNC and DNCC officials, and state party chairs.

100% of buses and motorpool vehicles are flex fuel, hybrids or run on biofuel.
The DNCC has engaged a broad spectrum of federal, state and local elected officials; national and local party leaders and allied organizations on their participation in the Democratic National Convention.

Briefed and secured input from many national, regional and local elected officials on Convention planning – including Governors, Mayors, U.S. Senators and Representatives, the Denver City Council, and constituency organizations in Colorado.

Met with more than 80 national allied organizations regarding participation at the Convention. These groups include unions, community organizations, non-profit and voter education organizations, and advocacy and constituent groups.

More than 300 foreign dignitaries have been invited to attend the Convention by the National Democratic Institute (NDI).

Building on the unprecedented interest in the 2008 Democratic primary, the DNCC has continued to reach out and engage residents in Denver and the entire Rocky Mountain West in the Convention experience.

21,000 volunteers have stepped forward to help ensure a successful Convention, a testament to the energy and enthusiasm both locally and throughout Colorado communities.

More than 750 people have attended "Convention Conversations" community forums in Denver, Pueblo, Boulder and Lakewood, Colorado; as well as Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. The forums are designed to provide opportunities for direct communication with top Convention organizers.
Nearly 1,200 Colorado middle and high school students submitted entries for the Convention "Write to Lead" youth essay contest. Two Presidential Winners will be invited to attend the event while fifty-four finalists will serve as ambassadors to state and territorial delegations.
Readership on DemCovention.com is up 40% since January, another signal of the building interest in the Convention.

The DNCC has set out to "bring down the walls" of the Pepsi Center and make the 2008 Democratic National Convention as inclusive and interactive as possible.

A DemConvention State Blogger Corps has been selected and will be credentialed in August to sit on the Convention floor with their state or territorial delegations. This ‘front row’ access will allow bloggers to provide even more localized coverage to their readers back home.

Live, gavel-to-gavel coverage of the Convention will be provided in HD at DemConvention.com. Through Official Provider Microsoft’s Silverlight platform for interactive Web applications and HD video, and the Level 3 Communications network, the DNCC will bring live video coverage of the highest quality to a worldwide audience on DemConvention.com.

Convention 101, a series of web pages at DemConvention.com, was launched as the definitive source on all things Convention, detailing the rules and mechanics governing the Democratic Party’s nomination process.

The DNCC is bringing to life its commitment to making this year’s Convention the most environmentally-sustainable event of its kind:

Plans are in place for a resource recovery system that will divert a minimum of 85% of waste at Convention facilities from the landfill to a single-stream recycling center and composting facility.
900 "Green Team" volunteers from the Host Committee volunteer pool will be on hand during Convention week to assist with our comprehensive recycling, composting and waste minimization program.

The DNCC has worked with more than 50 Colorado-based businesses and entrepreneurs who are providing a variety of services to ensure a successful, world-class Convention:
Key contracts have been awarded to local companies, including construction, transportation, printing, catering and event services, along with more than 100 Denver metro area hotels.
Credentials design theme selected. A Denver-based graphic designer was chosen to design the 2008 credentials for Convention attendees, including delegates, media and other guests. The credentials will include images that reflects Denver’s history and diversity.

Local businesses are connecting to Convention business opportunities via an online database established through the Denver Host Committee – nearly 2100 vendors have signed up.

How to Have Your Dog Live Longer!

How to Have Your Dog Live Longer
By Colin Albert

Every dog owner will want to ensure that their dog will enjoy a long and healthy life. But how long is the average life of your particular breed of dog and what can you do to increase the possibility that your dog will live longer than expected?

A myth has developed that one year of a dog’s life is equal to seven human years, so that, for example, a dog at age one is like a human child at age seven, and a 5-year old dog is the equivalent of a human adult of 35.

Actually, there is no established linear correlation between dog years and human years. Dogs mature much more quickly than humans. A dog at age one has generally achieved its full growth and is sexually active – this is obviously not true of a seven year old human child. So a dog at age one is similar to a teenager, who has some growing out to do but is more or less mature physically. Thereafter each year in a dog’s life may be seen as about equal to 4 to 6 human years.

Overall, the life expectancy of American dogs is around twelve years on average. But the actual expected life span of any particular dog is highly dependent on its breed. Generally speaking, the larger the breed of dog, the shorter its life will be. Veterinarians guess that this is because larger dogs’ bodies must work harder than those of their smaller compatriots.

The average life spans for some of the most common breeds of dogs are: 7-10 years: Great Dane, Newfoundland, Doberman Pinscher, Bulldog, Rottweiler; 9-11 years: St. Bernard, Bloodhound, Chow Chow, Boxer; 10-13 years: Airedale Terrier, Dalmatian, Golden Retriever, German Shepherd, Scottish Terrier, Afghan Hound, Dachshund, Irish Setter; 12-15 years: Beagle, Bichon Frise, Collie, Doberman, Pomeranian, Border Terrier, Cocker Spaniel, English Springer Spaniel, Greyhound, Labrador; 14-16 years: Boston Terrier, Irish Setter, Standard Poodle, Schnauzer, Shih Tzu, Yorkshire Terrier; 15-18 years: Dachshund, Miniature and Toy Poodle, Chihuahua.

The life expectancies set out above are for purebred dogs. Inbreeding and pure breeding can weaken the gene pool and reduce life expectancy, as a unique pool increases the likelihood of an undesirable trait influencing your dog’s genetic makeup dog.
So what can be done to increase the chance of your dog beating the statistical norms for its particular breed and living a longer than average life? Obviously seeing to it that your dog gets plenty of exercise is important. And, like humans, dogs seem to thrive better in an atmosphere that is relatively stress-free.

Most important is your dog’s diet. Dogs are carnivores and as such require a diet heavy in meat proteins, as high as 42% for puppies. Unfortunately the manufactured foods we buy for them at the supermarket or local pet store, while being high in protein, for the large part use cereal grain protein sources. You should try to feed them a supplement that contains high grade meat proteins. In addition, to help ward off the chances of cancer, it is advisable that the supplement contain immune enhancers. To ward off skin irritations and the seemingly inevitable scratching, an anti-inflammatory supplement containing a proper balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids should be added to the daily diet. As dogs are very prone to joint diseases as they grow older, a Cox-2 inhibitor can prove very useful. And of course the supplement should be rich in vitamins and minerals.

Setting aside thirty minutes each day to play with your dog and to see that it gets a decent amount of daily exercise, while keeping a watchful eye on its diet, can go a long way to ensuring your dog leads a long and healthy life. And be sure to take your dog to the veterinarian annually for a thorough examination.

Colin Albert runs the TakeCareofYourPet web site. The web site discusses information about a new product called Hope for Pets, a natural supplement that is amongst the very best nutritional supplements on the market to aid in promoting long, healthy lives for our pets.

Who is Denverdaawg Pet Care you ask? Denverdaawg Pet Sitting Service was founded in January 2003. Denverdaawg's love of all kinds of animals has prompted him to go into the pet sitting business. Working in the IT Industry took its toll and after an overwhelming outpouring from friends to take this love of caring for other's pets, he decided to start a business of his own. Because of his love of animals he couldn't think of any other business other than pet care. He saw how difficult it was to find someone to come to his home and take care of his Labrador "Zeke" while away and bringing Zeke somewhere else to be taken care of was out of the question. Tradd figured that if he had this much of a problem, there must be other pet owners that had difficulties finding pet care. Denverdaawg Pet Sitting Service was than born and has become very Successful with Tradd now also becoming the Founder of Denver Dog Walking Group utilized by sitters across the Front Range!
