Keep Your Pet Safe From Winter Hazards. To protect your pet during the cold winter months, the Dumb Friends League recommends the following safety advice: *Keep an eye on the temperature. When it falls below 20 degrees Fahrenheit, it's best to keep your pet indoors. *Keep your pet's coat well groomed. Matted fur won't properly protect your pet from the cold. *Check your garage and driveway for antifreeze. Antifreeze tastes sweet to pets, but most brands are poisonous if consumed. *Regularly check your pet's water to make sure it's not frozen. When your pet is outside, make sure there is plenty of fresh drinking water available. *Use a damp towel to wipe your pet's feet and underside. Ice-melting chemicals can irritate and burn the pads of your pet's feet and can cause serious injury if ingested. *Provide a dry, draft-free doghouse if you must keep your dog outside for any period of time. It should be large enough to allow your dog to sit and lay down comfortably but small enough to hold in its body heat. T *Keep snow from piling high next to your fence. A packed snowdrift will provide a boost for your dog to jump over the fence *Compare the amount of exercise your dog receives during the colder months to warmer months. If your dog is indoors more at this time of year, it's probably getting less exercise and may need less food.
Please Help us and Donate to Denverdaawg's Annual Christmas Holiday Pet Drive. Contact me for more information, our deadline is December 18th and all Pet items are accepted!
Looking for Denver Dog Parks click on me, or off leash areas look no further Statistics show that 1 in 3 families own a Pet, well here in Colorado I have to think that number jumps to every other family! Denver has been voted many years running the Top city in the U.S. to own a Pet and I believe it. The question is how to better improve your Pet's behavior, health or well being...that's where I come in.
Denverdaawg Here To Make Your Life Easier!
Why do I need a Pet Sitter or Dog Walker? If you are like most working Americans you are low on time and high on tasks. You might put in long hours at the office. This shortens the amount of time you spend engaging in dog walking with your best canine friend every day. Different dog breeds have different daily exercise requirements, so your pooch might need extensive dog walking or run in the middle of the day to keep from Behavior issues. How can you take your dog walking and be at work at the same time? You can hire a dog walker to be your dog walking replacement while you are at work. Often times a dog walker is more then just a necessity because many dogs that have limited dog walking time become irritable. Dogs need to have daily exercise and human connection through dog walking. This lack of exercise has let excess energy build up and can make your loving pet a little less loving.

Hero Afghanistan Dog Accidentally Euthanized
Story Link
Target — a dog credited with saving soldier’s lives in Afghanistan, and brought to the U.S. by one of them — was accidentally euthanized yesterday at an Arizona animal shelter.
Target’s owner, Sgt. Terry Young, found out his dog had been killed when he showed up at the shelter to claim her.
The dog had escaped from his backyard over the weekend.
“When it comes to euthanizing an animal, there are some clear-cut procedures to follow,” Ruth Stalter, Pinal County animal-control director, said in a statement. “Based on my preliminary investigation, our employee did not follow those procedures.”
The county is investigating the accidental euthanization at its Casa Grande shelter.
In Afghanistan, Target snapped and barked at a suicide bomber, who was trying to enter a building on a military base. The bomber instead set off his bomb in a doorway. Five soldiers were injured, several of whom credited Target with helping save their lives.
“I just can’t believe that something like this would happen to such a good dog,” Young told the Arizona Republic.
When he returned to the U.S., Young brought Target with him to his home in the Phoenix area.
A county spokesman said a shelter employee has been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
Young said he found the gate to his backyard open on Friday morning, the day after Veterans Day.
Heather Murphy, a spokeswoman for Pinal County, said Target was found by a nearby resident, who put her in his backyard and called the pound.
Later that night Young saw Target’s picture on a website used by Pinal County’s animal control office, and, assuming the shelter was closed for the weekend, figured she would be safe until he could pick her up Monday.
When he arrived, he filled out some forms and a staff member brought him another dog. Young then showed the employee a picture of his dog. Then he waited for an hour.
According to the Republic, Young saw one worker sobbing. And the director of the shelter told him there had been a mistake.
*Please email the Pinal County Office with your displeasure, I am very upset something like this could happen to such a special dog

October is Adopt A Dog Month!
October is a special month for many, Fall is in full gear with big fish on the move and snow is on the way for Colorado skiers. October is also a special month for Pets alike and shelter dogs in need...Adopt A Dog Month is Here
I usually don't like to talk about subjects outside of fishing or matters that many may not agree with, but I think we all can agree that a Pet in need is always a Pet worth talking about! I'm actively involved with various pet organizations being in the business and love to spread the word when possible to help our 4 legged friends.
What Can an Adopted Dog Bring to Your Life?
There are as many responses to that question as there are dogs in this world! That’s why -- during American Humane Association’s Adopt-A-Dog Month celebration in October -- we’re encouraging people to adopt a shelter dog and experience the joy of finding their own answers.
Are you looking for:
•an exercise buddy?
•a best friend and confidant for your child?
•a dog you can train with to learn animal-assisted therapy?
•a partner in agility competitions?
•a constant companion for your favorite senior citizen?
•a fuzzy face to greet you after a hard day at work?
Contact AHA or your local shelter today and save the life of a little one! Thanks

Morris Animal Foundation Annual K9 Cancer Walk!
• Provide new treatments for dogs currently suffering from cancer
• Establish a tumor sample bank to be used by cancer researchers
• Develop prevention strategies to eliminated or drastically reduced in incidence and severity
• Train new researchers to find preventions, treatments, and cures
Angelyne the Amazing DEAF Cattle Dog
Exceptional Entertainment
Talented musicians serenaded the crowds and an endearing dog act, Eric and Angelyne the Amazing DEAF Cattle Dog, demonstrated how deaf dogs can make exceptional pets if given the chance. Information about exciting new canine cancer research was shared at the gathering: Starting in the spring, new research will begin to look at specific breeds over their lifetime to identify genetic, nutritional, and environmental risk factors.
Living Memorial
Missy proudly wears a yellow bandana
An aspect of the walk that is extremely touching are the large number of dogs with yellow bandanas. (A yellow bandana signifies a dog that is a cancer survivor or currently going through treatment.) Also poignant are the numerous pictures of beloved pets that have lost their fight with cancer. It makes the K9 Cancer Walk a living memorial – with purpose

Fly Fishing Patagonia! Guided Trips Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas, Esquel Chile..Big Trout & Discounted Trips!
What's on everyones top Fly Fishing destination bucket list? If Patagonia isn't on your list something is seriously wrong with you. Whether you're a beginner, a worldwide angler or simply someone that enjoys traveling and fishing new waters, this is your place!
My last trip to Patagonia still resonates with me every time I talk to someone about my next big fishing trip or my favorite trip to date. What is it about fishing in one of premiere locations on Earth you ask? Could it be the gorgeous scenery? The remote fishing locations? Incredible wines or Argentina beef? Or perhaps one of the best outfitters around born and raised in this area as well as being fluent in English...I think I was won over my first day there and never wanted to leave.
Checkout some incredible shots from past trips with Tres Piedras. Chile has countless bodies of water in the Lake District, as well as in Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. We can guarantee that as you arrive to Patagonia, you will encounter many of the finest places for Fly Fishing in the country.
Indeed, in Patagonia there are many of those options for fly fishing: pristine and clear crystal waters in the rivers, lakes, streams, and lagoons. Most of these spots are accessible only by boat and have therefore remained relatively untouched by people.
Argentina is the fifth largest producer of wines in the world and the second largest in Latin America behind Chile so you can only imagine how good your lunch and dinner cocktails will be. Whether it's the savory Wine to cherish or the asado beef that you can't get enough of fireside, Tres Piedras can definitely customize each meal to meet your needs and having you saying wow a few 100x!
A lifetime fishing throughout the entire country, and ten years experience serving clients allow them to meet all expectations for fishing trips. A high return rate year after year and with only a few bookings left for the next season; contact us today to find out more! Be assured that we seek excellence in service, and try to acquaint our guests with Chilean Culture.
To satisfy the most common needs we have arranged four different kind of fishing packages, ranging from day trips to trips lasting up to a week. We also offer anglers the choice to take longer customized trips. Request complete information about prices, fishing, fishing destinations, species, equipment and all information you need to make a decision.
Whether you're looking for a few days away from the wife while down on vacation in Patagonia, a 7 day experience like no other in the far away reaches in search of huge trout, gorgeous scenery and solitude; or a package built to meet your needs, Tres Piedras has everything for you and your party!
The counties of Llanquihue are known for fly-fishing spots such as the Petrohue, Puelo, Cochamo and MaullÃn rivers, the Llanquihue, Rupanco and Todos Los Santos Lakes. All of these places are incredible for fly-fishing, however, there still remain hundreds of areas not yet discovered by the majority of fishers that are as good and sometimes better than the ones commonly known.
Contact me and I can pass along some great specials Tres Piedras has going on for the Upcoming season in Patagonia. With bookings filling up contact us today whether for more information, price specials or more about Tres Piedras. What's the worst that can happen, maybe you can start planning now for a trip of a lifetime!

Summer Denver Pet Newsletter! Tips, Events, Pet Care and More
Summer Pet Tips Pools/Lakes: Children are not the only ones who can drown when left unattended in pools or lakes. Never leave your pet attended when they are swimming and always make sure they have an easy way out or the pool is enclosed and inaccessible. Fishing Tackle: Colorful stinky fishing lures are very tempting to cats, dogs and birds and can prove to be very dangerous. Hooks are usually barbed and can not be backed out until the barb is removed. Never try to remove these hooks on your own. Seek veterinary help and sedation to prevent tissue trauma. Car Windows or Pick up Trucks: Dogs love to feel the wind in their faces but uncovered truck beds are a very dangerous place for your pet. Sudden stops or turns can throw your pet from the truck and a major injury could occur from the fall or by being hit by an oncoming car. Additionally, there is a lot of debris and insects moving at high velocities that can be hazardous.

Letter From a Shelter Manager- Shelter Dogs Need Help!
LETTER FROM A SHELTER MANAGER:
"I think our society needs a huge "Wake-up" call. ...As a shelter manager, I am going to share a little insight with you all...a view from the inside if you will. First off, all of you people who have ever surrendered a pet to a shelter or humane society should be made to work in the "back" of an animal shelter for ... See Morejust ... See Moreone day. Maybe if you saw the life drain from a few sad, lost, confused eyes, you would stop flagging the ads on craigslist and help these animals find homes. That puppy you just bought will most likely end up in my shelter when it's not a cute little puppy anymore. Just so you know there's a 90% chance that dog will never walk out of the shelter it’s dumped at? Purebred or not! About 25% of all of the dogs that are "owner surrenders" or "strays", that come into a shelter are purebred dogs.
The most common excuses: "We are moving and we can't take our dog (or cat)." Really? Where are you moving too that doesn't allow pets? Or they say "The dog got bigger than we thought it would". How big did you think a German Shepherd would get? "We don't have time for her". Really? I work a 10-12 hour day and still have time for my 6 dogs! "She's tearing up our yard". How about making her a part of your family? They always tell me "We just don't want to have to stress about finding a place for her we know she'll get adopted, she's a good dog".
Odds are your pet won't get adopted & how stressful do you think being in a shelter is? Well, let me tell you, your pet has 72 hours to find a new family from the moment you drop it off. Sometimes a little longer if the shelter isn't full and your dog manages to stay completely healthy. If it sniffles, it dies. Your pet will be confined to a small run/kennel in a room with other barking or crying animals. It will have to relieve itself where it eats and sleeps. It will be depressed and it will cry constantly for the family that abandoned it. If your pet is lucky, I will have enough volunteers in that day to take him/her for a walk. If I don't, your pet won't get any attention besides having a bowl of food slid under the kennel door and the waste sprayed out of its pen with a high-powered hose. If your dog is big, black or any of the "Bully" breeds (pit bull, rottie, mastiff, etc) it was pretty much dead when you walked it through the front door. Those dogs just don't get adopted. It doesn't matter how 'sweet' or 'well behaved' they are.
If your dog doesn't get adopted within its 72 hours and the shelter is full, it will be destroyed. If the shelter isn't full and your dog is good enough, and of a desirable enough breed it may get a stay of execution, but not for long . Most dogs get very kennel protective after about a week and are destroyed for showing aggression. Even the sweetest dogs will turn in this environment. If your pet makes it over all of those hurdles chances are it will get kennel cough or an upper respiratory infection and will be destroyed because the shelter gets paid a fee to euthanize each animal and making money is better than spending money to take this animal to the vet.
Here's a little euthanasia 101 for those of you that have never witnessed a perfectly healthy, scared animal being "put-down". First, your pet will be taken from its kennel on a leash. They always look like they think they are going for a walk happy, wagging their tails. Until they get to "The Room", every one of them freaks out and puts on the brakes when we get to the door. It must smell like death or they can feel the sad souls that are left in there, it's strange, but it happens with every one of them. Your dog or cat will be restrained, held down by 1 or 2 shelter workers depending on the size and how freaked out they are. Then a shelter worker who we call a euthanasia tech (not a vet) find a vein in the front leg and inject a lethal dose of the "pink stuff". Hopefully your pet doesn't panic from being restrained and jerk. I've seen the needles tear out of a leg and been covered with the resulting blood and been deafened by the yelps and screams. They all don't just "go to sleep", sometimes they spasm for a while, gasp for air and defecate on themselves. You see shelters are trying to make money to pay employee pay checks and don’t forget the board of directors needs to be paid too, so we don’t spend our funds to tranquilize the animal before injecting them with the lethal drug, we just put the burning lethal drug in the vein and let them suffer until dead. If it were not a “making money issue” and we had to have a licensed vet do this procedure, the animal would be sedated or tranquilized and then euthanized, but to do this procedure correctly would cost more money so we do not follow what is right for the animal, we just follow what is the fastest way we can make a dollar. Shelters do not have to have a vet perform their euthanasia’s so even if it takes our employee 50 pokes with a needle and 3 hours to get the vein that is what we do. Making money is the issue here not loosing money.
When it all ends, your pets corpse will be stacked like firewood in a large freezer in the back with all of the other animals that were killed waiting to be picked up like garbage. What happens next? Cremated? Taken to the dump? Rendered into pet food? Or used for the schools to dissect and experiment on? You'll never know and it probably won't even cross your mind. It was just an animal and you can always buy another one, right!
I hope that those of you who still have a beating heart and have read this are bawling your eyes out and can't get the pictures out of your head, I deal with this everyday. I hate my job, I hate that it exists & I hate that it will always be there unless you people make some changes and start educating the public. Do research, do your homework, and know exactly what you are getting into before getting a pet. These shelters and humane societies exist because people just do not care about animals anymore. Animals were not intended to be disposable but somehow that is what they are these days. Animal shelters are an easy way out when you get tired of your dog (or cat), and breeders are the ones blamed for this. Animal shelters and rescue organizations are making a hefty profit by keeping this misconception going.
Between 9 and 11 MILLION animals die every year in shelters and only you - as a pet owner can stop it. I just hope I maybe changed one persons mind about taking their dog to a shelter, a humane society, or buying a dog without researching. For those of you that care--- please repost this to at least one other craiglist in another city/state. Let's see if we can get this all around the US and have an impact.
PROMISE A FUTURE - and DON'T FAIL THEM! PETS ARE FOR A LIFETIME!!!

Denver's Earth Day With Mayor Hickenlooper!
I was doing a little Volunteer work yesterday for the Rocky Mountain Green Summit being held here in Denver. Nice way to find out what's going on around the state Environmentally and also what the future hold for this great Rocky Mountain State.
Hanging with Mayor Hickenlooper.
Nothing like your friend using a crappy cell
indoors & catching you offguard
One of the benfits of volunteering at events like this is that you not only get to Network with companies within the Industry I am focusing on, but also you get to hangout with Politicos like Mayor Hickenlooper. Since I had a minute, I got to ask him a few questions about our Renewable Resources and waterways!
Whether it was his topic of Green Successes in Transportation, Housing, and Energy Efficiency, or Denver's Greenprint plans and Clean Water. Hickenlooper, a former Geologist back in the day, has many great ideas to come but I guess it will come down to how many of them actually exist in order for him to take over the new reigns as governor after Ritter. Other Great resources for sustainability around the state.
